Clearly communicating the client's message with the viewer should be the driving force behind the design.
• everything on the page should reinforce the design
• eliminate the superficial
• use a grid system for organization
• break the grid for variety (if appropriate)
• reinforce and enhance content, don't distract from it
• clearly communicate the client's message
• problem-solving is the core of good design
Design styles come and go, but the Elements and Principles of Design remain constant. A good foundations training will carry you through a lifetime of work.
I am a former instructor of graphic design at Spokane Falls Community College. Check out their award-winning student work HERE.
WEB DESIGN
Why should a business or organization have a website?
Almost everyone is online, looking for services and products. Most customers expect businesses to have a responsive website as part of their branding experience.
Websites allow organizations to establish a presence, achieve more advertising for less money, boost current ad campaigns, answer frequently asked questions online, educate customers about services, build new customer bases, connect thru email and social media, establish relationships with clients, and gather contact information
For organizations and small business on tight budgets, using a design service to create the branding presence keeps costs affordable.
PRINT DESIGN
In addition to a website, print materials can promote and brand an organization's identity.
Branding is the first impression the public has of a business or organization.
Print materials reinforce the web presence, stimulate the senses, can be held in the hand and are tangible. They are accessible, portable, and persuasive.
Compelling copy gets attention, distills the product features into benefits people care about, and creates the tone, voice, and message of a organization for the right audience.
Good copywriting tells the client's story, translates the benefits clearly to the consumer, and communicates a clear "call to action".
Photographs and visuals allow the public to truly see and connect with a business.
Carefully composed images, properly exposed, cropped, and optimized, convey an organization's level of professionalism.
Visual imagery is one part of the whole branding experience potential clients see of a business or organization, and makes a huge first impression.
