DESIGN OVERVIEW: Self-Initiated Passion Project
A design exercise build for a faux midwest university visual arts department website, highlighting facilities, faculty, and student work.
2023 BUILD: Bootstrap, coded html/css (in progress).
2012 BUILD: coded html/css, custom script for working slideshow of student work.
IMAGERY
The images and text used in this passion project design are for comp purposes only, with the intention of demonstrating to a photographer the basic look I thought the site should convey. An emphasis is placed on showing students actively engaged in creative work, and an approachable faculty.
DESIGN CONCEPT
The design concept for the site is to allow potential students to get a feel for the department, an idea of the work they would be creating, what the facilities look like, and faculty qualifications. Could a prospective student picture themselves here? Too many art department websites choose not to show current student work, leading to the question, how to know if this is the right “fit”?
The site also serves as a hub for existing students of departmental information, such as quick access to degree information, course descriptions, the Art Club, scholarships, internships, etc.
